Education                               

North Plains Groundwater Conservation District is constantly striving to educate the public about our precious groundwater resources and the importance of protecting and conserving them.  Educational programs are available for any age group and can be tailored to your specific needs.  Programs can include fun hands-on activities for children of any age.  Please contact Rhonda Artho at 806-935-6401 or artho@npwd.org if you would like to have a presentation. 

Resources Available through the NPGCD office:

1. Library of water conservation and water education videotapes   available for check-out to persons within the NPGCD.  Ages preschool-adult. (See list of available videos)

 

               2. Library of free printed materials on groundwater, water conservation, water quality and other water related topics.

 

3.  Free Xeriscaping/Water Wise Gardening materials.  Contact the NPGCD office for a full packet.  Free Water Wise Gardening Classes are also held each year.  Contact the NPGCD office for dates and more information.
                    

 

4.  Educational presentations and activities for all ages. Topics can include water conservation, water-wise gardening, weather modification, etc. 

 

5.  "Major Rivers" curriculum available free to all 4th grade teachers in the North Plains Groundwater Conservation District.  Other fun water activities and units available for all ages by contacting  NPGCD.

 6.  Continuing Education Workshops for teachers.  Workshops are available for both Major Rivers and Project WET.  Teachers can earn state of Texas Continuing Education Credit hours, as well as TAGT (Texas Association for Gifted and Talented) and TEEAC (Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee) Continuing Education Credit hours.   Teachers receive curriculum materials and free resource kits to implement the curriculums. Workshops can be tailored to a school district's time requirements and age of students.  Contact Rhonda Artho for more information.   

            

7.  Educational programs and community service activities  with scouts.  Girl scouts can earn the "Water Wonders" badge, "Water Drop" patch,  "Water Everywhere" Brownie Try-It, "Girls Get With The Land" badge, and the "Folk Art"
              Badge.

 

                      8.  Water History Trunk - available for loan to teachers or brought to you with
                           an educational presentation by NPGCD personnel.  Children will  learn
                           about the history of water use in the panhandle, and will have fun trying to
                           identify historical objects related to water as they learn.  Contact
